The artist at a tender age

A product of New Jersey, Marcie made her escape when she was accepted to Tyler School of Art (Temple University) in Philly. Having received her BFA, she took off for a year in Israel and Greece, returning to begin grad school at the Boston Museum of Fine Art (Tufts University). With her MFA under her belt, she had a rare stroke of luck and was awarded one of 10 visual fellowships to one of the oldest and most respected art colonies, the Provincetown Work Center of Fine Arts, at the tip of Cape Cod.

For 7 months, with no responsibilities save making art, this period of productivity was peppered with visits from well known artists, encouraging the Fellows to use this gift of time to take artistic risks. That spring, the Fellows were invited to show at a prestigious East 57th street gallery in New York City. Unable to deny her biological clock, Marcie’s next project was marriage, children, and a nervous breakdown.

Years later, her sanity compromised, Marcie is still invested in painting and printmaking, exhibitions and commissions. Her two greatest works are Jonah and Aaron, although she’s troubled that neither son is artistic…such is the mysterious gene pool!
